On Dec 19, 2013 IEEE EMBS – Hashemite University Student Branch Chapter and Biomedical Engineering Department – Hashemite University organized the Biomedical Engineering Forum through the IEEE EMBS Distinguished Lecturer Program for the first time in Jordan, which hosts 3 International speakers:
Prof. Zahra Mussavi (IEEE EMBS Distinguished Lecturer) (Manitoba University-Canada) (Biomedical Engineering)
Prof. Eman Al-Khatib (Jordanian University-Jordan) (Medicine)
Eng. Brian Lithgo (Monash University-Australia) (Biomedical Engineering)
This day was special one not just for the attending of 3 International Speakers; in addition to this the attendees of students and faculty members were from 6 different universities in Jordan, also there was a presence for local and international health entities such as Hakim, Al-Hikma and Altibbi.
The Forum hosted by Hashemite University and was under the patronage of Hashemite University President Dr. Kamal Bani Hani.
The Forum started at 11:00am with introductory word by the dean of the Engineering Faculty Dr. Shaher Rababa’a, then followed with a word by the head of the Biomedical Engineering Dr. Thakir Al-Momani, the next word was welcome word by the IEEE EMBS HU Faculty Advisor Dr. Mohammad Al-Abed.
At 11:30am the session of the distinguished lecturer prof. Zahra Mussavi started, she talked about Alzheimer disease and the diagnosis ways for this disease and how the Biomedical Engineering field can help the doctors in their mission to treat such disease.
At 12:20pm the attendees went to the Coffee break.
At 12:30pm the forum continued with prof. Eman Al-Khatib’s session, who talked about Alzheimer disease from the medical point of view; how they diagnose and treat this disease and how they can work with the Biomedicalists to enhance the patient’s treatment.
The next session was for Eng. Brian Lithgo which started at 1:20pm, Eng. Brian talked about the Signal Processing field and how much is it effective in the Biomedical Engineering field and how we can use it in different medical issues, also what kind of subjects that the students and engineers can go through to enhance and develop this field.
At 2:00pm the attendees went to their second coffee break.
At 2:10 the session of student’s graduate projects started, the students presented four presentations about the Biomedical Engineering Students Graduate Projects with Hakeem program in the presence of Dr. Zaid Abu Ghoush and Dr. Ghazy Al-Kouz from EHS (Electronic Health Solution) Company, these presentations about Health sector in Jordan and convert it from paper use to computer use, and include (Surgery package, outpatient pharmacy, laboratory and view results of survey), then the EHS company gave a certificates to students for their efforts in develop Hakeem’s systems.
About 150 students and faculty members participated in this forum from different universities, local and international medical entities.
The forum end was at 3:00pm then the attendees invited to launch in the Faculty to search a cooperation between them event between the students or faculty members.
